The Colour Red
 by Nicola

Colours are said to symbolise, influence and teach us. We could probably all think of a meaningful colour, or a memory that is saturated with just one shade. It might be the colour of the walls in our first family home, the colour of the cardigan our Grandmother always wore, the colour of our school tie, or the colour we see when we close our eyes. Colours are all around us all the time and we all see them slightly differently.

Red. Red is powerful. Its intensity can be too bright to view and its deepest shade seeps into black with ease. Red is our universal warning sign and signals a risk — of danger and bloodshed. Are all risks bad? A risk can signify possibility and chance.
“If one says 'red' - the name of colour — and there are fifty people listening, it can be expected that there will be fifty reds in their minds. And one can be sure that all these reds will be very different.” Josef Albers
A scarlet red is rich and light with enthusiasm, whilst burgundy shows wealth of possessions and character, whereas crimson reflects desire and implies intention.

Red is the anger of your broken heart … but a loving heart is strong, full and is red as well…
Devastation or passion?
Red is warming.  Red shows courage and strength, even through tougher times. A red dress is bold, confident and seductive.  Red is desire.
“A certain blue enters your soul. A certain red has an effect on your blood-pressure.” Henri Matisse
Does it inspire you and get you moving? Or does it tell you that it’s time to stop? What does the colour red mean to you?
