Renewing Lost & Forgotten Clothes
 by Alice

I think most of us have the same wardrobe dilemma: we have a closet stuffed with clothes, only half of which actually see the light of day. Regardless of this, we still insist on going out and purchasing even more items on a regular basis. The more you buy, the more items get forced to the back of the wardrobe into the lost and forgotten section, never to be worn or thought of again.

The truth is, there is plenty of potential in those lost and forgotten items; maybe they just need a little TLC! So, dig them out of the depths of your wardrobe and give them another look. What drew you to the item in the first place? What prevents it from entering your collection of go-to items? What adjustments could you make which would encourage you to wear it more?

We've pulled together our favourite simple and affordable adjustments on Pinterest that can easily be applied to a wide variety of items. So, why not give them a try before spending any more of your hard earned cash?

ADD A COLLAR
Collars come in so many shapes and sizes, and they can add a sweet, vintage twist to so many different styles. Add them to jumpers, t-shirts, dresses... you name it! I love a collar. Take a look at our Pinterest board, full of great tutorials and inspiration...

SWITCH UP THE BUTTONS
A simple yet effective way of sprucing up a cardigan, button down shirt, or any item with buttons for that matter! Simply unstitch the buttons and replace them with some unusual vintage buttons, novelty buttons (cats are always a favourite), or buttons of a contrasting colour. You'll find all kinds of buttons on Etsy or in your local haberdashery.

ADD EMBELLISHMENT AND DETAILING
Experiment with iron-on patches, sew-on pearls and beads, sequins, studs, felt shapes, lace trimmings... The possibilities are endless! Check out our favourite customisations on our Pinterest board below!

CHANGE THE SHAPE
If you're feeling especially innovative, you could try changing the shape and style of the item completely! Think outside the box and turn a t-shirt into a crop top, your boyfriend's old shirt into a dress, a maxi skirt into a skater skirt, or a mini dress into a midi dress. It's all possible!

DYE IT
There are lots of easy techniques that will allow you to change the colour or pattern of your chosen item, using standard fabric dye or even household bleach! I think we can all remember experimenting with tie-dye when we were younger; well, the good news is... it can still look pretty cool!
