Fancy A Bruu?
 by Alice

I don't know about you, but I love getting post. Maybe it's something to do with living in a technological age that makes getting even the most boring of letters through the post a novelty and a delight.

Over the last couple of years, we've seen more and more subscription boxes come onto the market, allowing you to get anything from lipstick to healthy snacks to underwear delivered to your door on a weekly or monthly basis. And what better way to guarantee you not only the pleasure of having something slipped through the door on a regular basis, but also the enjoyment and surprise of being able to explore new and previously unknown delights within your chosen subscription box realm.

I'm an avid tea drinker – as so many of us Brits are. It's the first thing I consume every morning and it is the fuel that keeps me going throughout the hours that follow. My standard cuppa of choice: English Breakfast. If I'm feeling a little more adventurous or if I'm in a healthy mood: standard green tea. For someone who drinks tea so often, you'd think I'd make an attempt to delve into more of the huge variety of flavours that are out there. It's not that I don't want to, it is just that there are simply too many varieties to choose from, too many brands and too little time to try them all. When you go down the tea aisle of a supermarket, you are confronted with a wall of colourful boxes; it's just easier to grab your usual and save the decision for another day.

When Wonder were given the opportunity to sample a box from Bruu, the gourmet tea club, I was more than a little thrilled. It was time to put my tea drinking experience into the hands of the experts who would not only offer me variety but could guarantee quality, all delivered in a lovely little box by the postman.

When you sign up with Bruu, you simply give them an idea of the teas you would like to try (green, black, white, herbal, etc.) and from £10 a month, you'll get two to four (depending on the subscription you choose) mystery tea varieties delivered to your door on the 15th of every month. What's not to love?

Our box contained two different tea varieties – one black and one green – and four fresh cream truffles.

The black tea was quite unlike my usual brew. Chococo is a Caribbean inspired mixture of black tea leaves, chocolate chips, cocoa  pieces and coconut flakes.  As it was brewing, I could really smell the chocolatey aroma – way more excitement than I would usually expect on a Wednesday afternoon – and I could hardly wait for my first sip. As I suspected from the smell, the tea was super delicious. I tried it with and without milk, and it was very pleasant either way. I would say that it would be more than enough to satisfy anyone's chocolate craving without being too indulgent and would be perfect for those who find hot chocolate a little too sickly or rich.

Next on the agenda: the green tea. I find that green tea can be quite an acquired taste; you either love it or you hate it. I must admit that when I first started drinking green tea, I wasn't overly keen. I persisted because I had been told of its health benefits and, after a while, I found I grew to really love the taste. Had I been introduced to Pina Colada Green (a blend of green tea, coconut chips, pineapple pieces and sunflower petals) from the start,  I think I would have fallen in love with green tea straight away. The pineapple adds a lovely fruity sweetness to the tea; I could happily drink it all day long.

The four cream truffles that came with the teas were an unexpected but pleasant surprise – I certainly would never say no to chocolate. These pretty little chocs were handmade by Mocha, a chocolate shop in North Yorkshire, and you simply couldn't fault them with their soft melt-in-the-middle centre.
